The Kallang River, the longest river in Singapore, meanders through the area, and is a popular waterway for water sports. The Singapore National Stadium is located at Kallang, was demolished to make way for the Singapore Sports Hub which is going to be ready in June 2014
Nearby famous residential areas include Tanjong Rhu Estate and Lavendar/Beach Road residences.

Newer houses as well as cluster homes also bloomed in this heritage area.
